Installation

A number of issues have been raised regarding the problems with installing fipy. Issues:

• 3rd party package incompatibilities
• lack of user knowledge with respect to python installation procedures
• environment and path problems (lack of knowledge in linux/unix type stuff)
• platform incompatibilities
• installing fipy on multiple computers for classroom use

Solutions:

• Live CD, including complete OS
• make fink, apt-get, yum, rpm etc work
• Create fipy.dmg, fipy.exe (include everything) with complete python installations that do not interfere with system pythons.
• Investigate use of eggs
